Instruction in the production of basic percussion instruments made from wood and metal
My work is aimed at the musically untrained, at parents, and at teachers who are seeking new ideas for musical interaction and improvisation. I am convinced that there is a musician hiding within every person and that music is enriching for everybody. Even those who neither make music nor sing are listeners and will be singing along on the inside. This hidden inner musician has usually had little in the way of practice and is often completely lacking in self-confidence. He likes to make excuses such as "I am not musical because I don't play an instrument, I never had the opportunity to sing, I sing badly, I can't read music." And yet he enjoys listening to music and may sing, in his head or out loud, the melodies which come to him (mostly when he is alone). The inner musician will be grateful his whole life long if we take him seriously, allow him to experience new music and new sounds, if he's allowed to hum and sing time and time again. Working with children, we have a great opportunity to enter into musical conversations and to bring children closer to the active side of music making. Each and every child has a source of musicality within. Active music making by simple means is also possible at preschool age, and has a wholesome and soul-enriching effect on the development of every child. The best way to acquire new knowledge in this emerging area of music education is in groups. Musical interaction brings joy through the coming together with others, develops flexibility, and allows us to bring new considerations to the upbringing and development of children.
